How Do You Clear Land That Has Been Overgrown for Years?
When a property has been neglected for years, clearing it usually takes more than simply mowing the grass. Thick weeds, brush, vines, saplings, fallen limbs, and years of accumulated debris can make the land difficult to access and use.
Start by Assessing the Property
Before clearing begins, the property should be inspected for rocks, fencing, irrigation equipment, stumps, holes, utilities, and other hidden obstacles. Dense vegetation can easily conceal hazards that aren't visible until work begins.
Cut Back the Overgrowth
For larger areas, equipment such as a skid steer with a heavy duty brush cutter can quickly knock down tall grass, weeds, brush, and smaller woody vegetation. Chainsaws, string trimmers, and other hand tools can then be used around trees, fences, buildings, and areas that equipment can't safely reach.
Clean Up the Debris
Depending on the goal for the property, cut vegetation can be left to decompose, collected and hauled away, or processed with a wood chipper. Woody material can often be chipped on site, reducing bulky piles while creating wood chips that can be spread over the property.
Plan for Future Maintenance
Clearing the property is only the first step. Without continued mowing or vegetation management, many properties can quickly become overgrown again. Periodic maintenance is usually easier and less expensive than allowing the property to return to its original condition.
