At Rugged Land, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s part of everything we do. When we perform brush clearing or wildfire mitigation, our goal is to make sure nothing goes to waste. Trees that are removed aren’t simply discarded. Instead, we repurpose them into custom-cut lumber, handcrafted woodworking projects, and firewood giving each tree a new purpose and story.
Turning Trees Into Something Meaningful
When Rugged Land removes trees from your property, we offer several options for what happens next:
Tree Removal Only – We remove and transport the trees, adding them to our inventory to be milled into lumber later.
Turn Trees Into Lumber – You can choose to have your trees milled into usable lumber for your own future projects. We’ll transport the trees to our sawmill, cut them into the requested dimensions, and return the finished boards.
Custom Project Creation – If you want something truly unique, we can turn your trees into a finished carpentry project of your choice, from outdoor furniture to garden structures. This is often the most rewarding option because the finished piece carries a story: it was made from the very trees that once stood on your land.
Every project we build reflects the natural beauty of our local wood species and the care we put into sustainable craftsmanship.
No Trees? No Problem.
Even if you don't have trees that need to be removed, you can still take part in our woodworking program. Rugged Land maintains an inventory of Douglas-fir and Ponderosa pine logs harvested from past land-clearing jobs. These logs are ready to be milled into lumber for custom-made projects upon request.
How Our Sustainable Custom Carpentry Process Works
Our goal is to make custom woodworking accessible to anyone even if they don’t have the time, tools, or experience to build something themselves.
Here’s how it works:
Send Us Your Plans
If you’ve found woodworking plans online for a planter box, outdoor chair, garden bed, or another project simply send them to us. We’ll review the design to confirm it’s feasible and provide a detailed quote.
We Build Your Project
Once approved, Rugged Land mills the necessary lumber (either from our inventory or your own trees), gathers hardware, and constructs the project to match your specifications.
Delivery or Pickup
After the project is completed, we deliver it to your property or arrange for pickup.
Every piece is made to order and crafted with care, something that can’t be found on a store shelf.
Examples of What We Build
Raised garden beds
Planter boxes
Outdoor tables
Chairs and benches
Little free library boxes
Custom outdoor décor
Project timelines vary depending on complexity. From a few days for small items to several weeks for more intricate builds. While some designs may exceed our current capabilities, we’ll always be upfront about what’s possible.
A Sustainable Story Behind Every Project
Whether your project starts with a fallen tree from your property or a log from our own inventory, the result is the same — a useful, meaningful item made from local wood that might otherwise have gone to waste. Each piece is a testament to sustainable craftsmanship and local resourcefulness.
When you choose Rugged Land, you’re not just getting a custom project, you’re helping make sure that every tree we touch continues to serve a purpose for years to come.
