In late June of 2025, we wrapped up our second job of the season, located just east of Walla Walla up Mill Creek Road. The customer reached out needing improved access for his combine harvesters before wheat harvest began.

His field road was overgrown on both sides with tall grass, blackberries, hawthorn, small saplings, and a few cottonwood trees. This made it nearly impossible for large equipment to pass through.
Our Approach and Equipment
To get the job done, we brought out our skid steer equipped with a brush cutter. We also used a chainsaw to tackle the larger cottonwoods.

Much of the brush was growing on a raised bank along each side of the road. This made the work more challenging. Instead of making straight passes down the road, we had to run the skid steer perpendicular to reach the brush. This slowed things down a bit. On flat ground, this job would have been much quicker.
Challenges and Timeframe
Even with the tricky terrain, we finished the project in about 7 hours. The overgrown brush was completely cleared. The field road is now fully accessible for harvest season.
A Satisfied Customer
The customer was thrilled with the result. We’re proud to have played a small part in getting his property ready for the busy weeks ahead.
The Importance of Wildfire Mitigation
In rural areas, especially those prone to wildfires, maintaining clear access roads is crucial. Overgrown vegetation can create fire hazards. By removing unwanted brush and debris, we help reduce these risks. Our services not only enhance accessibility but also contribute to the safety of your property.
Sustainable Practices
At Rugged Land, we believe in sustainability. Trees that are removed from properties never go to waste. They are either turned into custom lumber or split into firewood. This approach ensures that every part of the tree is utilized, minimizing waste and promoting responsible land management.
