This rugged brush clearing job just outside of Walla Walla transformed 1.5 acres of thick blackberries, grass, and hemlock into usable, fire-safe land.
A Pasture Overrun by Blackberries Becomes a Hazard
When a landowner located about 15 miles outside of Walla Walla reached out to us, his 1.5-acre pasture had become completely overgrown with dense blackberry vines, tall grass, hemlock, and thistles.

The blackberry growth was so extreme that it was climbing up the sides of his outbuildings and even beginning to grow inside. The property had been unusable since he purchased it, and the fire danger posed by the overgrowth was serious enough that he was at risk of being fined.
This blackberry brush clearing job near Walla Walla restored overgrown pasture and eliminated a significant fire hazard.
Tackling Blackberry Brush Clearing with the Right Tools
Our team arrived early to beat the summer heat and got to work with our skid steer equipped with our heavy-duty brush cutter attachment. This was the main tool for knocking down the towering blackberries, some of which stood taller than the skid steer itself. We also used a chainsaw to clear out several small cottonwood and elderberry trees near the access road.
While the job went smoothly overall, the density of the brush and underlying terrain posed challenges. The pasture sat on an old creek bed full of river rock, so we had to be careful not to cut too low. Despite our caution, the brush cutter blades still hit a few hidden rocks—something that’s not uncommon with this type of rugged land clearing.
Creating Access Trails for Better Usability
In addition to removing brush around his buildings and throughout the field, the customer requested two new trails.

One provided access to another road on the edge of his property, and the other gave him a clear path down to the creek. Both trails were completed as part of the job and significantly improved the functionality of the property.
Job Results: A Fire-Safe and Usable Property
After about seven hours of hard work, we were able to fully clear the overgrown pasture. All blackberries, hemlock, thistles, and tall grasses were removed from around the outbuildings and throughout the field. By the end of the day, this pasture was not only usable again but also no longer posed a wildfire risk—giving the customer peace of mind and helping him avoid costly fines.
